Hello! My name is Radhika Purushothaman. I am one of the co-founders of animaT1D, and also a pediatric endocrinologist practicing in Portland, Oregon USA.
I believe that knowledge is indeed power. Understanding a concept demystifies it and removes the uncertainty around the new and unknown. Through animaT1D, we hope to empower the viewer with knowledge and understanding about type 1 diabetes and remove the anxiety to some extent.
All the videos that you see on our YouTube channel are scripted and created by me, and based on the guidelines set forth by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD). So, you can rest assured that the content is reliable and medically accurate.
Our vision is to revolutionize type 1 diabetes care globally through powerful, transformative education, one video at a time...

Hello! My name is Molly Barry. I live in Eugene, Oregon and I am a speech-language pathologist, Wilson dyslexia practitioner as well as the mother of two wonderful daughters. My younger daughter is autistic and has type 1 diabetes as well. She is the inspiration behind this venture.
My journey with animaT1D is both personal and professional. I observed when my daughter was very young that visual and multi-sensory tools for learning were powerful for her. When type 1 diabetes showed up in November of 2019, I became acutely aware of the need to understand and manage this chronic condition and also noticed there was a lack of comprehensive educational materials in an engaging visual format. After a conversation with my daughter’s endocrinologist, an idea was born. I was later serendipitously connected with Radhika to help create this resource and am honored to be on this journey together.
I also have the privilege of facilitating a caregiver support group through Breakthrough T1D Northern California for parents and caregivers of children with T1D and neurodivergence. I’m deeply grateful for the strength and inclusivity of this community—and proud to be walking this path alongside such amazing individuals.
founding board member | strategy & social media
Hi! I’m Lauren Barry, a founding board member at animaT1D. Watching Dr. Radhika Purushothaman and my mom, Molly Barry, bring this vision to life has been nothing short of inspiring. Their passion, persistence, and heart are what built this project from the ground up, and I’m humbled to be part of the team alongside them.
I have a BA in Social Entrepreneurship with a minor in Economics, and I support animaT1D through strategy and social media. I’m passionate about building creative, community-centered tools that are accessible, empowering, and rooted in real-life experiences. Whether it's designing social media posts or supporting long-term planning, I love contributing to a mission that blends clarity, care, and impact.
My sister, Chelsea, lives with type 1 diabetes and continues to be my inspiration. Growing up by her side, I saw firsthand how isolating and overwhelming T1D can feel—especially without the right resources or support. I’m proud to be part of a team that’s demystifying type 1 diabetes through accessible, medically accurate, visual education that meets people where they are and reminds them they’re not alone.
