TCTSY is an empirically-supported form of yoga from the Center for Trauma and Embodiment that was designed for individuals navigating PTSD or complex trauma. With over 20 years of research, TCTSY is an effective form of trauma care. If you are interested in accessing TCTSY research to learn more, check out the resource linked here.
The five core principles of TCTSY include choice-making, taking effective action, experiencing the present moment, non-coercion, and shared authentic experience. TCTSY sessions are participant-centered. Facilitators offer options for ways to practice and empower participants to choose what feels useful for them in the moment. All options are welcome; there is no "right" or "wrong" way to practice. Examples of options may be adjusting the pace or extent of movements, choosing to pause in stillness, or noticing the movement of the breath. Participants are invited to check in with their bodies to possibly notice the presence of sensation as feedback to guide their choices during the practice. Facilitators engage in the practice along with the participants to promote a shared authentic experience of body-based healing.
I currently offer 30 or 60 minute 1-1 TCTSY sessions online via Zoom. These sessions allow for participants to work individually with the Facilitator from their own space. You can choose to have your camera on or off for the practice. There is no minimum session commitment. You are welcome to attend 1 session to try it out and decide if TCTSY is something you'd like to continue after.
An introductory workshop can be requested in-person or online for groups. The workshop is appropriate for practitioners who specialize in movement (e.g., yoga teachers, physical therapists), mental health professionals (e.g., counselors, psychologists, social workers), or integrative health care providers. The purpose of the workshop is to offer an introduction to TCTSY by exploring the core principles, theoretical underpinnings, practice opportunities, research, and resources for further learning. Participants receive a certificate of completion and Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Credits. The full workshop is 3 hours, but can be shortened based on the needs of your group.
